Langham Huntington Pasadena Launches Special Cocktail Menu

The Tap Room's new cocktail menu features libations inspired by U.S. cities

The hotel's new drinks honor Pasadena, Boston, Chicago, and New York.

The Langham Huntington Pasadena's Tap Room has launched a new special cocktail menu of four new drinks available only at Langham hotels in the United States.

The cocktails were created by Alex Kratena, a bartender at The Langham London. Kratena has received Best Bartender awards from various international bar organizations.

Kratena’s new libations include the Social Club, featuring vodka, Lillet, Vetivier, rose water and California citrus for the Pasadena Langham; Back to the Future featuring Talisker, port, sherry, citrus, cacao, and raspberry for the Chicago Langham; Skylines featuring aquavit, fino, citrus, cedarwood and bitters for the Boston Langham, and Lady Pink featuring fino, rhubarb, citrus, agave and bitter orange for the New York Langham.

Each specialty cocktail will be available at the participating hotels through the end of 2014.

Pasadena’s Langham Huntington has a new chef, and he’s got something different for you to try

Justin Campbell is the new chef at The Terrace at the Langham Huntington, Pasadena and he’s changing up the menu, encouraging diners to try something different.

“It’s not that I don’t want to offer someone else’s product, but I’m chef Justin and I need to showcase me,” Campbell said.

Campbell has worked as a private chef, as well as at Ink.Well, Centeno Group, Wolfgang Puck Catering and The Bazaar by Jose Andres at SLS Hotel. He has cooked for Barack Obama and Bill Clinton and spent five months working with chef Michael Voltaggio on Travel Channel’s “Breaking Borders” series, which trekked through 20 cities in five Asian countries.

While filming “Breaking Borders,” Campbell became inspired to use items in different ways, such as turning cauliflower into couscous. He also believes in wasting as little as possible.

“I’m a firm believer that we shouldn’t be throwing away as much as we do. There’s a lot of people out there who are hungry,” Campbell said.

Campbell isn’t looking to shock anyone, but he is offering a few edgy dishes, such as pork cheeks with banana grits.

“I like to be able to take this delicate piece of meat and you look at it first and your mind is blown – and then you eat it and you’re like, This is unlike anything I’ve ever had,” Campbell said.

The Divine Dish

The Langham, Huntington Hotel and Spa in Pasadena, launched their new Chocolate Afternoon Tea last Sunday. I took my mom (who loves going to tea) to sample the new sandwiches and chocolate desserts.

The entire Lobby Lounge is decorated with beautiful chocolate sculptures, some are pictured below:

We started off the tea with a glass of champagne.

Next came a tray of savory tea sandwiches all containing a different chocolate essence.

selection of tea sandwiches and scones

Here is my plate of sandwiches and a yummy scone. They include a white chocolate and avocado mousse with vanilla marinated shrimp, cucumber white chocolate mint mousse and grapefruit, smoked salmon and roasted fennel with cocoa nib mousse, serrano ham burrata mousse with chocolate caviar and foie gras mousse profiteroles with chocolate dust.

my plate of sandwiches, and a yummy scone

Mom and I both liked the foie gras mousse profiteroles the best, though all of the sandwiches were really tasty. We also got to choose from a variety of teas, including chocolate mint truffle, mayan truffle, pear caramel, English breakfast and green tea passion. I had the pear caramel with pears and Ceylon and China black teas and a touch of vanilla and sweet caramel. A perfect match for the sandwiches. Scones were chocolate chip and chocolate marble.

chocolate table, full of chocolate desserts

We then got to choose from all of the desserts that were on the chocolate table. These included chocolate madelines, cardamom truffles, orange black tea madeline, earl grey milk chocolate, cocoa nib macaroons, white chocolate bark hazelnut and ginger, lemon poppy bread with chips, milk chocolate orange gateau, chocolate raspberry gateau, chocolate orange bread and chocolate cream fruit tarts, among others.

Above is what I chose, all very good. My fave was the chocolate cream fruit tart, close up below.

Mom liked the chocolate macaroon. We then visited the huge chocolate fountain, where you could dip fruit – strawberries and melon, cakes, brownies and marshmellows into the flowing chocolate. Below is what I chose.

chocolate dipped marshmellow, fruit and brownie

My favorite was the brownie, very chocolaty, mom’s was the strawberry.

Brownie drenched in chocolate, with a truffle

Last came some nice hot chocolate, served in pretty cups.

My mom and I loved this tea. For anyone who loves chocolate it is a must. Chocolate Afternoon Tea is served every Sunday afternoon at the Langham, reservations can be made at 626/568-3900, $59 per person.

Pamper Your Pup at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena!

Living in Las Vegas, I’ve been to a lot of hotels. I’ve stayed in some, gone to parties at some, and visited family staying at some, and each one has had it’s own unique qualities. When I go out of town, I always try to find a new hotel to stay at because it’s always so fun to discover new places. Last week, I spent the night at the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever been to in my life, the Langham Huntington in Pasadena!

With it’s gorgeous scenery, quiet location, award-winning spa services and new doggie services, it’s no wonder that Disney chose the Langham Pasadena to shoot their new movie, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva La Fiesta!

Last week, I joined several other bloggers for an event to celebrate the new movie as well as the Langham’s new doggie services. While we were there, we relaxed at the hotel, enjoyed their fine dining and saw some of their new special features that are focused around the furriest members of our families!

Upon arriving at the Langham, I was amazed at it’s sheer size. The hotel sits on 23 acres & includes more than 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space that can host groups from 10 to 1,400! If this hotel was in Vegas, I’d be having my wedding there- seriously.

As soon as I followed the map to my room huge, and I’m not so great with maps>, I found a yummy welcome gift in my room waiting for me. The music on the radio was also turned on to a soothing jazz station, so I sat for a minute and tried to unwind from my hectic hours of traveling!

Even though it’s an older hotel, they have all of the modern amenities, including Wi-Fi & an alarm clock that doubles as an iPhone dock! Sometimes, it’s the little things that impress me the most.

My room had a sitting area as well with a really comfy chair, along with a table that held a coffee maker and, of course, some coffee. I actually checked out a few of the other bloggers’ rooms and of the five that I saw, no two were the same! They all had the chair, the bed and the table, but the rooms were all shaped differently and the furniture was moved around in all different combinations. It was fun because you could stay there twice and have a whole new room!

When it was finally time to head to bed, I was SO excited. I usually share a queen sized bed with Justin, Shane, and Bella- so having a whole King bed to myself was amazing!

The next day, we had breakfast in one of their many beautiful meeting rooms and then caught a screening of the new movie ! After a Q&A with the filmmakers and trainers, we grabbed some lunch outside and it was beautiful. I’m from the desert obviously, so I’m not used to seeing so many trees and such green grass. It truly looked like something out of a movie- and it is, since it’s in movies- but even just standing there “in real life” I felt like I was watching a movie. It was gorgeous!

After lunch, the bloggers who brought their pups were able to treat them to doggie massages, a new service offered by the hotel. Dogs get a lot of the same benefits as people from massage, including a reduction in stress and anxiety, help with digestion, a strengthened immune system, and better blood circulation, joint flexibility, and range of motion. &They really enjoy it! The pups I watched getting massages all sat perfectly still and enjoyed every last second of it.

The Langham just launched their new Doggie Program, too! While they’ve always been a pet-friendly hotel, they have been working hard to make sure that your pup enjoys their stay as much as you do. For $135, you can upgrade your hotel room to include the Doggie Program, which includes use of a Langham pink porcelain pet bowl, gold mat and plush pink bed pillow, a bag of gourmet doggie treats, a doggie door hanger, and The Langham Doggie Newsletter, which includes a list of dog-friendly parks, restaurants and more around the hotel. It also includes the spa menu, highlights of which include massages ,  a cold stone massage, yoga ball exercise, paw care, aromatherapy, and a nice walk.

If that’s not enough, you can get the Distinguished Doggie Package, which includes all of the aforementioned services as well as one Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva La Fiesta! plush toy and a “Bow Wow Breakfast” for your dog. Breakfast options include:

The Bowser Burger
All-beef burger meat served with raw carrots and snap peas

Chow Down Chicken Breast
Grilled free range chicken breast served with a side of rice

Scrappy’s Steak n’ Eggs
Petite filet mignon, served with two scrambled eggs

The Doggie Diet: Crunchy Crudité
Raw carrots, snap peas, green beans and sliced apples

The menu also includes some side dishes, treats, and pre-packaged food for the less adventurous pooches!

The Langham is a great choice whether you’re visiting with your family, are there on business or just need a bit of “me time”. I just wish I could move in like the pups in the movie!

Note: Disney & Click Communications hosted this event, for which my accommodations were provided. All experiences are authentic & all opinions are my own.
